They fucking did this schtick already — in the mid-90s in the Arctic Circle, the only difference is it was sponsored by Molson (well, ok, and is the opposite pole) .. but still.. same ol' Xtreme Bitter Cold Rockin'-Out!

Am I an olde for remembering this?

My wife worked security on that show. Courtney Hole apparently decked Lars at one point...

      Art imitates reality.

Reality gives birth to clockwork, slavishly corporate parody of art.

Legions of suicide/revenge strike teams formed by angry I-am-not-a-hipster-but-I-act-like-a-hipster fan boys launch against the Dethklok/Sell-Outtica hybrid in their Antarctic fortress.

      They totally sold out.

I.e., I liked their old stuff.

Metallica, three music businessmen and one headbanging scab.

I don't understand this. Or maybe I do. I seem to remember years ago that everyone hated one of the guys from Metallica. Though I do listen to some of their music, I pay absolutely no attention to musicians personal lives. So, what's the deal with this comment?

Their current bassist, Rob Trujillo, was only added in the 2000's, so he wasn't around for the "glory days" of the band and is viewed by some as no more than a hired gun. Typical "reject the new guy" bullshit, which is ironic considering people did the exact same thing to their previous bassist.

Metallica are one of the best bands I've ever seen live. But they're still shills.

It's not like they haven't done this before...

    http://www.metallica.com/tour/sep-3-199…

That was a couple of years before I met my wife. She worked for the airport in (relatively) nearby Inuvik and she got to work security for the show...

There are a lot of reasons to hate Metallica, especially after the Napster debacle, but I never got why people hated them for cutting their hair and shopping at Armani. They can't enjoy their wealth or cut their hair? People expect musicians to act like they're 25 until they die.

It works better when they have the decency to die at 27.

Not that I condone hating them for those reasons (they deserve to be hated for the music they made after cutting their hair, not the hair itself), but it's because they're a metal band, some would say THE metal band, and shopping at Armani is about as un-metal as it gets.

Fans won't notice a difference since Lars always sounds like he is drumming on frozen tin cans

The drumming on that reminded me of those guys on the street that use upside down buckets. God, that was an awful album.

But Death Magnetic was a good record.

Maybe not a great record, but a very worthwhile metal album.
