      Yeah, it's dumb, too, because if ever anyone could have been marketed as the next Marilyn Monroe, it's Spears. Although Monroe probably was a good deal more in control than her public image would have led one to believe.

      I'd never thought of her that way, but yes, I can picture it. Norma Jean had the benefit of not living in a time where your life can almost completely be observed though; Britney's freak out moments lower her from icon status (and down into normal, 'us' levels).

      I guess Marilyn had the rare ability to work both Girl Next Door and Glamour Icon powers. Don't see that much.

      She really truly is not. I know several people who applied for that job, in fact. It doesn't pay a fortune, but it's fun. All you have to do to qualify is have no gag reflex.

                If Britney plays things right, she could have an entire pop muisc niche to herself...the "MILF next door" niche. Katy Perry has "big-breasted sugary cornball" all sewn up, Rhianna has "ethnic/crazy/freaky slut", Miley has "druggy-legal-yet somewhat-pedophilic" locked down...but the MILF market is all hers. If she doesn't fuck it all up, that is.
