      Agreed. That little bit about an "Indian squaw" - like it can't just be an unfunny joke about how actually psychopathic Dick Cheney is. It needed some zest of racism in there to properly encapsulate everything fucked up about America's right wing.

    Manning is a national hero who informed the public about war crimes done by the american military (although no one was punished but her). Dick Cheney is a wealthy oligarch who jokes about his own abuses of power.

    This is sickening.

      Because nothing was all that conclusive, and the information she/he (she now, he at the time, confusion always) released included tons of other stuff that was useless for anything other than bombing American troops.

      It's great if you stop a mugging that only you claim to have happened, but that doesn't help when you're charged with shooting up the rest of the street.

      To be fair, the credibility was mostly internal anyway. People who live in countries where we tortured or bombed them, or subverted their governments, or supported despots who tortured or bombed them, or invaded and occupied over the decades weren't all that shocked.

        There was a bit of damage to our partners in our ability to not air their dirty laundry. Not in the "oh, we do clandestine operations that can potentially destabilize entire regions for decades to come" but in "we might accidentally leak that you helped us destabilize entire regions for decades to come."

      There was this one-shot antelope hunting contest in Wyoming in which the loser had to dance with an Indian squaw. My shot got caught in the barrel, producing a dispute over whether it counted as a hit or a miss, so I shot the other guy in the face! Ha!

      Did I mention that I hate Indians and squaws? That's why I shot him.

        Your version is good. It employs humor and a coherent narrative. Leno's joke is like out of The Big Collection of Elephant Jokes book I had as a kid:
