I met him a couple of times but have nothing "deeply personal" to say about it. I hope I'm not alone in recalling the ruckus he created when he was drama critic for the NYT and wrote "Homosexuality and its disguises" in which he declared that the three leading American Playwrights were (clutch those pearls like there's no tomorrow) ALL HOMOS!!!! He did not actually name them — leading many people scratching their heads over who the third one could have been
