"Earlier this week, a Banksy piece on the Lower East Side was vandalized..."

How can you be sure that the "vandalism" on Banksy's piece wasn't just art as well?

Yes, fair enough, it's all art. I'm not talking artistic value as much as $ value.

Maybe they're not oblivious-maybe they just don't want it on their walls. Dafuq is wrong with that?

I think this PSA is less art-minded and more $$$-minded for the property owners.

You really don't get what dafuq is wrong with throwing away a million dollar pay day just because you like your walls clean? Go buy new walls with the free loot Banksy blessed you with. Don't be a sucker when other suckers are ready to pay ridiculous sums for these ridiculous tags.

Pretty sure the whole point of WHY Banksy does this is he knows it will be fleeting. Most of his pieces have already been removed around the world. Its the fleeting nature of it that makes it valuable.

I used to know an artist that worked with the sand on West Michigan beaches. People would yell at tourists, telling them not to walk on his art, but that was the whole point of it. It's there for a few moments, and then it's gone, trampled by tourists and scoured away by the wind.

That's such a refreshing perspective, especially in these days of the global art market.

Since Banksy™ never comes forward about any of these shenanigans, it wouldn't be so hard for a building owner to hire a good copycat to put some ironic shit on their walls and claim Banksy™ came by and reap the rewards from the idiots who will pay for that — He doesn't sign his works, who's to say it isn't? He confirms the work is his by posting the photo to his website. There have been instances where people have cut out pieces on walls (google: Bankrobber) and tried to sell them and Banksy then did not upload photos. Also, his authentication service (Pest Control) does not authenticate any street pieces.

Therefore if it's not up on his website there's no way to pass it off as a Banksy. Sure, someone could try it and only a sucker would buy it...

I'm kinda inclined to say that only a sucker would buy it authenticated or not... who the fuck thinks a cinder block with a piece of random ironic musings would retain six figures in value? :p

Believe it or not, that wall of trash cans was actually put up by the building owner . Apparently the owner found out what was on the walls and needed to block it off - there are plans to put plexi-glass over it.

      Hamilton,

Please reply to this post with your home address and and common locations where you park your vehicle(s).

I can surely arrange for some artist friends to renovate your property without permission.

You're welcome to come vandalize my house if your graffiti is going to add a million dollars to my property value instantly. Otherwise, keep it to yourself.

Some people want to enjoy their property and don't mind that they're not going to become millionaires from a tag.

I think someone should whip his ass for painting on other people's property. Yes I understand the value he may add to the building but it does not belong to him. Not to mention I find the art world extremely retarded.. I like art and own some but the way they act towards others is insane. Just watch the documentary " Who the fuck is Jackson Pollock" and you will understand ( great flick btw). Its odd how a select group of people can call absolute garbage " spectacular work" and its all the sudden gold but someone who does create stunning art is shunned because " they " don't think its special.

      Anyway .. carry on.
