Can someone please start a, "sleeplessinaustinlookslikeahorse.com"...please? I live in Austin and was online dating for a while. This giant tool would email me on the reg. I never responded, but he wouldn't get it. His profile was hilarious. Mean girls at work and I would laugh for days anytime he would email me. I know, terrible of us, but now he has proven to the world what an imbecile he is. TOTAL.ASSCLOWN.

I'm always curious how these people (a) prove this in court (b) can afford to take it to court, especially when they're already job-hunting. I've been turned down for a few jobs in the last 6 months (reception, PA, retail) explicitly because I wasn't female and while I probably wouldn't have wanted the job anyway (with that as a hint) it did start to irk me.

Presumably, but I don't go cold-calling at "help wanted" signs wearing a wire, so I'm unsure how someone convinces a legal aid office that there is enough evidence to proceed.

Lady, you think her being behind the counter is going to scare customers? Just wait until the lawsuit becomes public knowledge—oops, there it goes.

Good, I'm glad that they have to pay damages to her. Oh, and the bakery owner pulled out the old "Nuh-uh, YOU'RE racist!" bit:

"Saputhanthri even accused DaCosta herself of racism, saying she assumed his wife, Meimetea, was racist because she looked white."

WTF??? If the employer had been black and said they didn't hire black "counter girls" it still would have been a case of discrimination. What an idiot.

I'm glad they got fined. I can't believe that this happens in this day and age.

Now onto the things that should be the pressing questions of our time. What exactly is the difference between a black and white cookie and a half-moon? Tell me if I have this correct. The crunchier cookies with the iced frosting (you know the kind that you put on warm and then it solidifies when it cools) are black and white cookies. The more cake-like cookies with cake frosting are half-moon cookies. So are the black and white a NYC thing? What are the half-moon? Did they come later? Why is there not a swirled/marbled version?? These are things I need to know.

I'm surprised they have them in Germany. I'm not sure they are even as far as Cleveland in the contiguous US. ;)

And the cookie lady offered the "I can't be racist because I'm also a ethnic minority" defence. Delicious.

That is the problem with how sociology fans can and do define racism. Ignore macro/micro levels where is suits ones' own interest seems to be the post-modernist fantasy coming forth.

I can't tell you how often I walk into a grocery store and every person doing the stocking is male, every checkout person is female, and all the managers are male. And so many restaurants where the servers are white and the busBOYS are all hispanic males. These owners are engaging in a kind of discrimination that is as rampant as it is vile.

What's amazing is that in 2013 this kind of crap is STILL so accepted that they didn't realize what trouble they'd be in for admitting it out loud.

Wait, so, only $25,000? That's their fine? For some reason, I thought they would have to pay much, much more.

Yeah, but you have to realize - that fine has to be paid during a time when LITTLE business is being done since everyone and his brother is sh*tting on their YELP page...

And even if they declare bankruptcy, that fine still has to be paid.

How timely. As a sat in a job interview earlier I noticed a couple women of color there and breathed a slight sigh of relief.

These are things that still occur in my mind when I apply for jobs. Glad to know I'm not crazy.
