In South Korea, Christmas is treated much more as a consumerist/materialist holiday than a religious one (as you would expect in a country that's 70% atheist/agnostic or Buddhist). I wonder if it's treated the same way in the DPRK?

(PSA: Please don't go to North Korea; your forex props up the regime in a way that does not trickle down.)

I spent Christmas in China a few years ago, and it was surreal. Since religion plays little to no part in it over there, it was basically an excuse for businessmen to dress like Santa and get hammered. More of a New Years Eve kind of vibe.

I'd still take a month in North Korea over the ridiculous marketing driven mob-mentality consumerism that holidays and holiday shopping have become here in America. If you are waiting in line outside a store at 4am for a discount on a flatscreen the day after Thanksgiving, you should be sent to a prison camp.

There's a Catholic Cathedral in Pyongyang. Religion isn't illegal in the DPRK, just almost no one explores the worship of anyone other than the state leaders. Yes, probably out of fear, but this post is being propagandic.

Considering that the current archbishop of Pyongyang is a guy who was disappeared by the regime in 1949 (the Catholic Church does not forget or forgive). Any public worship of anything that is not the Kims is probably just North Korean propaganda.

Kenneth Bae was arrested for advocating over throwing the state. You could add that in your article instead of making it look like he was arrested for being Christian. More lies from Gawker.

Kevin McCallister doesn't think this would be as fun as being lost in New York.

I'm pretty sure Santa Claus hasn't been to North Korea in a long time, even though Kim will try to make you think otherwise.

This is a country that believes its former leader invented the hamburger and didn't expel any waste. I don't think they give much of a shit about accuracy.

Ive heard of these tour groups to North Korea, they are basically for bored rich people. Personally, anyone who steps foot in North Korea is taking their lives in their own hands and will get no sympathy from me if something happens.

I also think it's just gross to vacation in an area where people are starving due to their fucked up government or are killed because they "did a porn shoot", or really because you "dated" the crazy dictator at one time.
