I'm going to guess he's a Mackintosh, because I have their family motto memorized from reading 6 million "The Cat Who..." mysteries when I was little.

The full version is "Touch not the catte bot a targ," which is basically Scots for "don't touch that cat w/out gloves on, fool!"

More importantly: seriously white people, you had 1500 years alone, and this is the shit you think up?

I will spot you Chaucer - that guy could rap. But heraldry? This shit, you need to explain to the rest of the world.

Seriously. I had to make my own coat of arms when I was in elementary school because it didn't occur to my teacher that one of her students wouldn't already have one easily accessible on the internet.

I have a rather common Irish last name, so we already have a coat of arms.

    I like the colors?

Heh. When I lived with my cousin I drew us a family crest. Our family motto is "poco a poco."

I love that they had to invent a coat of arms for the Middletons before The Wedding, because God forbid the future king's consort's family shouldn't have their own heraldry, and also for administrative outdated protocol reasons like this. But then, to be fair to Kate, heraldry has been around for so long, and is taken quite seriously by people who still consider it to be important, so there probably wasn't much choice - all the good designs were probably taken already. On an unrelated note, it really bugs me that the royal coat of arms has the lion rampant of Scotland, a harp for Northern Ireland, and two sets of Richard the Lionheart's three lions for England. Would it really kill everyone involved to swap one set of lions for a nice Welsh dragon?

Wales was incorporated into the Kingdom of England a long time ago.

In any case, not even the coat of arms for the Prince of Wales uses the Welsh dragon in the shield part. Rather it incorporates the coat of arms for the princes of Gwynedd. The dragon just hides out in the bottom.

Yes, I know, but my point is, in an ideal world, each one of the four countries of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland would be represented in the monarch's heraldry. I'm not Welsh, I'm English, and I get that Wales did get the tradition of naming the heir to the throne the Prince or Princess of Wales as a consolation prize after the Welsh ruling princes were effectively wiped out and Wales came under English rule during the middle ages, and Wales wasn't considered to be a separate entity in the same way that Scotland and Ireland were, especially considering that Scotland came into the mix as a separate sovereign nation, and Wales was conquered. But Prince of Wales or not, the Queen is still queen of all of us, and the romantic in me just feels like it would be fairer for Wales to be represented in the monarch's heraldry as well. It will never happen, but I think it would be nice anyway.

My actual coat of arms* has shellfish on it, which probably made us the lamest bunch of knights going into any tournament or battle. "QUAKE IN TERROR, for we are both full of allergens and not at all Kosher!!!"

*from the rich part of the family; I'm basically descended from the dude three guys AFTER cousin Matthew, the one who was too poor to be a lawyer in Manchester, even (much less inherit a title and boff my rich cousins), so he came to America.

This is my coat of arms, that I drew when I was 11 and I was in love with Princess Diana, and all things British, so I read books on heraldry and ignored most of what I learned and drew some badass unicorn horns and swords and arrows. And some gender ambiguous people hanging out.

        Books and cat hair.

That's about it. That's also my interior decorating scheme.

Oh, and I guess the motto would be "What? Leaveth Me In Peace, Unless Ye Flames Have Unto The Hallway Reacheth."

So you know how heraldry represents a family through the use of visual puns?

          Heralds don't pun.

          They cant.

          Sorry.
