Diddy clocked all that off his new Nike ad right? "Johnson" is quite possibly the highlight of the NFL season so far*. I am curious to see how many Sundays it takes for "put it on me" to cease cracking me up.

*lie$- the Niners sucking is the highlight of the NFL season so far.

Wow MAD props to Tech Nina making this list. You see most of these guys have large labels backing them and bankrolling, I know Tech Nine was putting in lots of work doing promos, tours and shows without a major label backing. Not sure if this is still the same, but to see him on the list as maybe an independent artist is really worth noting.

It does give hop and provide a model for other musicians, regardless of genre. He does his thing on his terms, works hard at it and is rewarded.

Tech's been doing his thing for years. This is nothing new. Finally the right person put the people at Forbes up on what they were missing.

How the hell do I know every single name on that list. Im really annoyed with myself.

Sidenote: I'd rather see a list of highest paid "Indie" artists.

I don't know 5 names on that list. Birdman being the highest. I'm not sure if that makes me fell really cool or really lame?

Side note: Did you read that (GQ?) article last year about Grizzly Bear? Those dudes are one of the most popular, successful indie bands around selling out venues like Radio City and they're only pulling about $75k a year.

Well done for Questlove, but is he really a "rap star?"

I'm always skeptical of these lists. You have a bunch of rappers who are hot at the moment listed, next thing you know they're filing for bankruptcy and having their cars repossessed. One year Young Joc was on the list, I assume it was for ring tone sells of "It's Going Down." It's almost impossible to accurately gauge rapper's net worth because they lie and over-inflate their wealth.

Actually, I think the quick bankruptcy is due to money going out as quickly as it comes in, rather than over-inflation of numbers. Its just like with athletes; they strike it rich and end up splurging on cars and homes, taking care of friends and family, and it quickly snowballs to the point where they have little, if anything, left.

That is probably true too. These guys definitely seem like the type to spend before they even cash their first major checks. Missy Eliot talked about how a lot of artists start off their careers in debt because they take out some many advances from the label. The label gets recouped before the artists sees anything. The reason I think they over-inflate the numbers is because it's hard to gauge how much money actually goes into a musician's pockets. It's been rumored and somewhat confirmed for years that artists at labels like Bad Boy and Cash Money don't actually see their royalty checks. Juvenile and Manny Fresh had to sue Baby for their money and to get out of their contracts.

Why is it "Shawn 'Jay-Z' Carter" in 2012 and just "Jay Z" in 2013? I know about the hyphen drop, but when did he drop his entire legal name?
