I'll be honest- this is the first stuff I've ever read by Peggy Noonan. Did she suffer a stroke or some other, similarly mentally debilitating event?

You take that back! How dare you disparage stroke victims like that.

      Yes, actually.

When Ronald Reagan (PBUH) used his vorpal sword and went snicker-snack and shut down all the federally funded mental institutions a great many patients were thrown into the mainstream population. While many, untreated and with no life skills, failed to thrive, a few were able to put together their lives enough to manage reasonably. Some tiny fraction, through great psychosis and sociopathic behaviors, managed to rise to positions of prominance among right-wing media mouth pieces. Ronald Reagan (pbuh) saw that while MOST of the patients would be horribly damaged by this some small number would come to great use.

Peggy, Rush, and Willy-O! show that if you're willing to throw away and destroy a large fraction you can make use for your amusement a small remainder.

Oh that's not the only thing they know. They know that when you clean her toilet, you don't even have to use a disinfectant because her shit is so clean. They know that landscaping is the worst job to have on her property, since flowers grow in her footsteps. They know that you aren't to touch the reliquary, where she keeps a piece of Reagan's foreskin in a sealed vial, lest you be given to the hounds. They also know that despite her incessant whinnying, people like her are on their fucking way out, and all the rest of us have to do is outlive them.

I'd hate to be one of those sad, sad people for whom everything peaked in the Reagan years.

Yet she bitches about abandoned factories and generational debt as if Reagan had nothing to do with that.

Reagan was great. It was "money first, people later". Supported apartheid, sold illegal arms to Iran, yeah a real class act. Oh, and a shitty actor too.

I was trying to come up with a long explanation about how she's wrong, biased and people act like she's neutral or somehow has "insight" into real America. But your summation works much better.

I sort of what to pick apart the huge and entirely obvious flaws in what she's saying, even though I'm sure most of you see it, just to prove they really exist. Because I have all sorts of 'Merica relations that are nodding and smiling at this stuff.

What do we have to do to get any sort of conservative thought that actually involves thought?

Oh, the violent videos did it! Not the paranoid delusions and possible schizophrenia. Of course, she's right, it's a two-day news story at best because within that time frame some other horrific tragedy involving guns pushes it off the top of our public discourse.

Meanwhile, The House of Representatives is busily voting to try and literally take food from the hungry and downtrodden, a bill they know will be rejected by the Senate and even if it could make it through has been promised to be vetoed, but they're going to go do that.

Oh, and those foreign elites? Given the opportunity most who come here for school or business choose to stay. Despite our violence and abandoned factories.

Is there a single major broadsheet op-ed columnist who isn't completely useless? I like Krugman but I'm willing to believe I'm misguided because everyone else seems so horrible. Has it always been this way?

They read about the state legislator who became a hero because she tried to make sure babies can be aborted at nine months—they see the fawning interviews.

Holy shit. I always thought she was stupid and ignorant. I never realized that she's a fucking horrible person. Fuck you so much (it could never be enough), Peggy.

"They read about the kids who are bored so they killed the visiting Australian baseball player, and the kids so bored they killed a World War II veteran." Peggy Noonan is like world's greatest concern troll, except I have no idea what it is she's trolling.
