Question: Why is the word injuring in quotes in the article? It seems to me like using a dated picture of an HIV- soft-core model (one who has apparently retired from active work in the adult industry) to headline an article about a hard-core HIV+ actress would in-fact be injurious to the former's reputation. Am I missing something obvious?

ETA: If it's just to indicate that the particular quoted word is part of a larger statement by her attorney, setting it off alone does, unfortunately, make it appear rather snarky; maybe quoting more of his statement would have avoided that connotation.

It's the latter, but fair enough, your point is taken. Wasn't meant to be snarky, so I revised.

I think the author was trying to differentiate between injury to one's reputation and physical injury. I feel like readers could have been able to guess which one was being referred to, but, hey.

Fun fact: at common law (in the US anyway) allegations or imputations "of loathsome disease" constitutes defamation per se, which means the plaintiff doesn't have to prove damages.

The Daily Mail had better hire a good lawyer (barrister, whatever).

I always wonder whether models in stock photos are ever tempted to pursue lawsuits over how those photos are used. I'm sure they've signed away a lot of those rights, but still—it must suck to have your photo bannering humiliating headlines.

Usually I don't like people suing for every little mistake. However, this is exactly what you should sue for in my opinion. Careless, clueless and defamatory.

This kind of thing can really do a number on a persons reputation. Remember when Joey tribbiani wound up as "VD Boy?"
