Wow, Gabrielle. That journalism degree is really working for you. Money well spent. Did you call your parents for validation after you wrote this two-sentence summary of an article from the NY Post? They must have been proud.

The whole "let's attack Tina Brown" thing is getting old. I'd rather have my boss ask/tell (because it's work and EVERYTHING he does is asking/but really telling) me to write content for a charity than write most of these kinds of posts. I guess I should just shut up and enjoy the fact that for as long as I have to read articles attacking Tina Brown I don't have to read articles attacking the NY Post is, since, you know, your whole staff is just copying them at this point.

Sadly- this is hardly an exception. Most private rich-person charities are complete scams. I work for a number of wealthy folks who operate charities. To have to listen to their spiels about "helping mentally handicapped youth," or "women's rights in Afghanistan," and then observe the vast difference between the total amount that was donated to their charity versus the amount that they actually invested in directly helping the cause- is one of those things that takes terrible-shit-people-do to a whole other level. Its so disgusting to watch already-wealthy people make even more bucks under the mantel of helping those in need...

Yep, I was once invited to a presentation where real estate developers gave each other human rights awards. One guy got one for installing a DOOR ON THE ONLY TOILET IN THE BUILDING, a building that housed perhaps 40 people. Because rapes went down afterwards. One guy got an award for putting in new lightbulbs to replace the burnt out ones.

Now, that's just mean. I wonder if she and Barbara Amiel ever get together and plot nasty endings for their husbands?

And that charity she gave all the money to last week? She's merging her pet charity with it, so it's not so much a donation (with tax benefits) as a reallocation of capital.

        Hi Gabrielle,
Please answer this without snark because it's a sincere inquiry. Comments that criticize and make fun of Gawker writers' copying other news sources confuse me. I was under the impression that ya'll are SUPPOSED to hunt for thought-provoking, edgy, beyond-weird, crazy, liberal -versus -conservative ALREADY NEWS stories. Perez Hilton style, you share the story and maybe provide additional commentary. Then we dysfunctional-yet-intelligent, witty, see-through-religious-bullshit types can comment and share experiences.

Have I been wrong? Are Gawker writers actually the kind of journalists that follow people around with pencil and notepad, and track down sources, and investigate and all that? Do you have an editor who assigns leads? Thank you for any insight.
