Any leader of a country that can allow this to happen to their own children can kick rocks.

Since Shygurl seems to not be promoting any of the comments that are criticizing her post, I'm calling on Gawker to remove the thread entirely.

The photo in question isn't even a baby from North Korea, so I'm not sure why this commenter would even post the photo of a mutilated baby, front and center nonetheless.

    Seriously, get that shit DOWN.

I love her backtrack on being called out for it not even being a North Korean baby. "Oh, uh, yeah, I just meant all the evil dictators in the world and all the countries with human rights abuses!" I wanted to comment on it pointing out her utter cluelessness and backtracking, but I realized another comment would just elevate the thread even more in Kinja.

Yeaup! And she's dismissing almost every single comment where people are berating her for the photo. That's why I decided to start this thread in hopes that Gawker will get the point.

Every time people on my Facebook post anti-gay status updates, ridiculous pro-life propaganda or "evidence" that Christians in the US are persecuted, I think of Kenneth Bae (and others in prisons camps) and how he is most likely going to die a horrible death for being caught with a bible on a missionary trip to help people.
          I hate Americans.

          Also, Rodman's a douche.

            From his wiki:

Bae was traveling with five European tourists in Rajin-guyŏk, Rason, North Korea when officials discovered that he was carrying a computer hard disk that contained pictures of starving North Korean orphans

Was it really because he was caught with a bible? He was charged with:

            • Planning an anti-North Korean religious coup d'état called "the Jericho operation".
            • Admitting to setting up bases in China for the purpose of toppling the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
            • Encouraging North Korean citizens to bring down the government.
            • Conducting a "malignant" smear campaign.

So, don't go yellin' christian persecution yet. Humanitarian persecution, sure, but I'm sure he knew the risks of trying to expose those pictures.

Are Americans allowed to travel to North Korea? If so, why can we travel there, but not to Cuba? That being said, why are Americans prevented from traveling to any country? I can understand preventing trade with a despotic nation, but shouldn't "free" Americans be allowed to travel where they want? (I understand that tourism is an industry and could be interpreted as trade, but at what point does our desire to punish another country override the freedoms of Americans?)

None of these are genuine information-seeking questions, right? B/c you could Google or Wiki that shit rather than stirring it up. Go write an article and submit it or STFU.

What the hell is wrong with you? The whole purpose of comments following a story is to voice one's opinion and stimulate conversation. It seems a lot of people have answers and opinions on the questions I posed and one commenter was able to explain his or her own experience about traveling to North Korea, which he or she ultimately decided against. If you don't like reading comments and varied opinions on the topics of news stories, you are free to merely read the story, form your own conclusions, and move on to the next. While my questions were somewhat rhetorical, in that I could've just looked up the answers, I preferred to pose them to the commentariat, so that I could hear others' takes on the subjects. I find it weird that you seem to think people should not ask questions in the comments.
If you are just trolling for a reaction, well done!

Nope. Jay Carney (not the President by the way) made one comment about this trip, saying that Kim Jong Un should worry more about NK's citizens than "celebrity sporting events." They criticized Kim Jong Un, not Rodman. The President should never criticize journalists for doing their job (and VICE has had some pretty amazing coverage of NK and refugees escaping NK), and you assuming that the President did just that is kinda crazy.
