Yeah...apparently it's legal to stalk someone against police orders, get into a fight once confronted about it, and kill the kid...but only if he's black.

If the races were reversed, conservatives already would have lynched Martin.

In Washington, we have a stand-your-ground law, but you can't just go out and shoot somebody. It has restrictions and you're really only allowed to kill someone with it if they break in to your house and they have to be killed inside your residence. You can't just go around picking fights and killing people. We also have the most badass law in America, aka Mutual Combat. Basically, 2 people can agree to fight and a police officer becomes the referee.

This sounds more like a castle law. Castle laws I have no issue with. My house, my rules.

That's not stand your ground, that's the castle doctrine, which used to be the default for cases like this. What you're describing is pretty much the opposite of stand your ground. Read up on the castle doctrine here.

Let me get this straight. On this vid, we hear the police telling George not to follow him. He responds, "OK." Next we hear the woman telling 911 somebody is yelling for help and can be heard in the background. That person yelling for help is George Zimmerman. George then shoots Trayvon, who is 6'2 btw. (I think)

Some how, it's all George's fault. Everybody acts as though George initiated the attack. That is incorrect. If Trayvon would not have attacked George, he'd still be alive today. Period.

If GZ listen to the dispatcher and stayed put. If he stayed in his vehicle. If he did not break neighborhood watch guidelines that you are to be unarmed and to report. There are not alot of ifs that caused a 17yo to be killed by a dickless, wannabe cop.

Didn't the murdering-pedophile George Zimmerman get not guilty on regular self defense laws, not SYG? EDIT: Apparently the SYG laws changed the standing self defense laws too. Goddamn.

Supposedly the jury was read instructions prior to finding their verdict on Self Defense Laws which included Stand Your Ground legalese.

However, you are correct that the defense did not attempt to invoke SYG.

Zimmerman's attorney released a statement saying that they were raising "traditional self defense" and not syg laws. I have seen a lot of journalists say that this was not SYG laws.

However, I am an attorney (but I will freely admit that criminal law is not my area) and I do not understand this statement. My understanding is that SYG laws are different from traditional self defense because the person using deadly force does not have the duty to retreat. Therefore, it seems to me like that, if Zimmerman was using non-SYG self defense laws, he would have had to prove that he had attempted to retreat prior to shooting Trayvon Martin. But I don't think he did that. So, it seems like he was, inherently using SYG laws.

But, like I said, this isn't my area.

Typical Neetzan article. What's interesting is how so many people think this a white/black issue. Hello idiots, it was a Mexican who shot him not a white person. Ignorant jerks. Stop with the racism crap. It is sad that Martin died, but I am sure that no one cares much when its a black on black shooting. Pathetic.

Incorrect. Zimmerman is an American citizen not a Mexican national and definitely not of Mexican ancestry.

His mother is Peruvian though which is part of South America. Mexico is part of North America.

I stand corrected. It was a Hispanic-American who shot an African-American. My bad. Thanks for clarifying. And I am not a racist. Thanks.

Oh look, the mouth-breathers have shown up, to tell us how Martin's murder had nothing to do with Stand Your Ground laws.

        Mmmhmm. Sure thing.

Stand Your Ground wasn't cited in the Trayvon case, was it? Granted, "Anti-Self Defense Ad" probably would get far...

          Incorrect.

They didn't use the stand your ground pre-trial. HOWEVER, the stand your ground law modified standing "self defense laws." The new text containing stand your ground verbiage was read as jury instructions.
